EXO Japan: Rising to the occasion

Investing in resources to meet growing demand

In the wake of the pandemic, Japan has emerged as a global tourism hotspot. To meet this surge in interest, EXO Japan continues to strengthen our team and invest in resources.

Despite the complexities of operating in an exceedingly popular country, our focus remains on maintaining our commitment to excellence in travel experiences.

Mark Holguin, General Manager of EXO Japan, shares his perspective, stating,  ‘We have found ourselves in a unique position of managing one of the most popular destinations in the world, with clients who continue to grow their business in Japan’.

‘As we always work to plan ahead to meet this growing demand, we continuously review our manning requirements, office space and equipment, to stay ahead of the growth curve in order to deliver on the excellence our clients expect of us’.

With a new Director of People and Culture in place, EXO Japan has been focused on expanding our team with the best and brightest talent. Beyond scaling up manpower, EXO Japan is also investing in resources that will ensure the continuity and quality of our services.

Since opening in 2011, EXO Japan has shown steady growth, a trend that’s set to continue.

‘We wrapped up last year [2023] with about 165 full -time employees spread across 14 prefectures and will be adding another 30 to our teams this year,’ Mark explains.

‘We also picked up a new floor in our Tokyo office to handle this growth and to ensure we had the necessary meeting and training space.’

To further support the team’s growth, EXO Japan has hired a dedicated, full-time trainer. Working alongside the Director of People and Culture, this role is key in providing our team with valuable opportunities for professional and personal growth.

Along with the surge in leisure tourism to Japan has come an increased demand for adventure travel.

EXO Japan has been at the forefront of this sector since the start, combining operational know-how and a passion for the outdoors to design and deliver epic adventures. This has been enhanced by our assets which include our own fleet of top-quality bikes, specialised guides, support vehicles and other adventure equipment.

As the demand for adventure tours grows, EXO Japan remains committed to maintaining our high standards. ‘We have just added 10 new ebikes to our fleet of road and hybrid bikes for our adventure business, as well as another van to our growing fleet of support vehicles’, Mark explains.

Facing the exciting challenges of Japan’s tourism boom, EXO Japan is proactively enhancing its team and resources to keep pace. Our strategic investments in staff and infrastructure are geared towards maintaining our commitment to excellence in travel experiences.
